Sad News

Dear Mercer Democrat,

Sadly, I have to inform you of the passing of Pasquale A. "Pat" Colavita, Jr., former Mercer County Commissioner.

Pat, widely loved and respected, was a very special and beloved person who gave back to his community and others in countless ways, through his elected public service, longtime educational career, his many non-profit involvements and his personal friendships.

A lifelong Lawrence resident, he served on the Lawrence Board of Education, then went on to serve as Councilman and Mayor of Lawrence Township. In 2004, he was elected to the Mercer County Board of Commissioners, where he served six terms. Pat served for over 35 years as a speech and language pathologist for the Hamilton Township Board of Education. He volunteered for numerous community organizations including CONTACT of Mercer County, the Mercer County Community College Foundation, Greater Trenton YMCA and New Jersey Junior Achievement. A favorite place to find Pat was assisting with the Mercer County Sunshine Foundation's Operation Dream Lift where chronically and terminally ill children are transported to Disney World.

Former Commissioner Pat Colavita left his unique and lasting mark on our Mercer County and everyone whom he touched. Mercer County Democrats will miss his exuberant personality, his infectious smile, his quick wit, his generous spirit, warm friendship and his dapper wardrobe.

His passing is a tremendous loss to our Democratic family, and we extend our condolences to his wife Marianne and the entire Colavita family.
